I am a mother.
I have a daughter.
I live in my big house in the Seattle suburbs and blog.
Yet, there is a dissatisfaction. I fret over my kids and their education. I discuss my marriage issues. I blog politics at times. I speak of grief over my dog. I feel a part of the blogging community when I find others with the same experience. The same viewpoint.
It is all well until I read this.
Then this.
Then this.
Then this.
Then I am sick to my stomach that i have it so good while other mothers and daughters suffer so much.
I feel bound to do something, but what?
I read this. I know what I must do. I must devote my time like I do to PTA, kids' sports, and community volunteering. I must look beyond my locality. I must look to my sisters in Afganistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, India, and beyond.
I can pledge one hour a day to this. It is nothing. It is a drop in the bucket. This is where I challenge you. To look beyond our lives to help others.
I ask you to join me on this blog. To pledge your time. We women of the west know nothing of laws allowing us to be beaten, to be burned alive, to be married as a pre-pubescent girl, to be aborted because of our sex, to receive less health care or education because we have breasts, nor to have acid thrown on us.
I ask you to pledge your time. To write. To guest blog.
To blogroll.
With all ad profits and donations going to help those very mothers and daughters.
Will you join me?
